The finale to the 2016 SoCal Honor Bowl, held in Mission Viejo had a match up that was touted as the National High School Game of the Week. IMG Academy from Bradenton, FL braved Hurricane Matthew the week of the game and traveled cross country to sunny Southern California to play Corona Centennial, a California powerhouse. Centennial’s Head Coach Matt Logan had his Huskies in the Honor Bowl for four years and accepted the challenge to play one of the strongest teams in the nation. Head Coach Kevin Wright of IMG knew that this was w a true test for his Ascenders who have players on their roster from 24 States and 9 Countries.
After 5 prior games in the 2016 Honor Bowl, this Saturday night game was a highly anticipated event and did not disappoint. Centennial and IMG matched points on the scoreboard and it came down to a shuffle pass down the middle with 0:20 left to give IMG Academy a 50-49 victory. Both teams praised each other for athleticism, class and honor. Wait for next year!!!
