Colfax students will welcome home military veterans in all school assembly

Colfax High School students, staff and area Veteran’s will have the privilege of experiencing “The Sacrifice Tour,” the day before the nationally recognized holiday, Veterans Day. On Tuesday, November 10 at 9:30 am, the Honor Group Incorporated, a non-profit 501 (c) (3), will ignite the school spirit by explaining in a rally why students have a “random day off in the middle of the week”. The multi-sensory comprehensive 50 minute presentation will feature music, multimedia video, and presentations from keynote speakers and highlight the true “Sacrifices” of those men and women who have served our great Nation ensuring our freedoms in the past, present and future.

“I could not be more pleased that The Honor Group has agreed to make Colfax High School one of their tour stops,” said Paul Lundberg, principal at Colfax High School. “Several years ago, I was introduced to this dynamic organization through The Honor Bowl. The Honor Bowl is one of the Nation’s best high school football invitations to benefit military veterans. From that event, they made a presentation at the school I had been vice principal. The goal of hosting “The Sacrifice Tour” is to impact the student body with a wide myriad of real life stories designed to touch each student on a profound level, resulting in forward thinking while embracing every single member of our armed forces as a member of their family. We want to drive a message home – freedom isn’t free and sacrifices are made daily.”

The Sacrifice Tour will be emceed by Colfax High School Principal, Paul Lundberg and keynote speakers will include a special welcome by Placer County Supervisor, Kirk Uhler, a special talk about brotherhood, loyalty and commitment by General Robert Hipwell who is a highly decorated US Army Officer and Purple Heart recipient. An inspiring and emotional talk by injured Navy Sailor, Jason Gieser, a leadership talk by student motivational speaker Dean Johnson and an emotional wrap up by Gold Star Mother and Granite Bay resident, Patty Schumacher whose son, Lcpl. Victor Dew was killed in action in 2010. Plus much more that will leave the students and staff educated and refreshed with a renewed spirit of pride and American patriotism. All active serving military men and women, as well as, veterans are encouraged to attend this FREE assembly.

We are honored to be asked by Colfax high school student leadership to bring this highly educational tour to their school,” said Rick Sutter, Executive Producer. “Over the past two years we have produced the Honor Tour events that have played at schools throughout California. We call the tour, ‘Sacrifice’ and it has received rave student reviews, healing praise from military veterans and local media support. We educate the students about what a real hero looks like and we are proud to be presenting ‘Sacrifice’ at this high school campus!

Empower, Educate, Equip are not just words but are the mission of the nonprofit community organization. This year, The Honor Group has donated two specially trained service dog to local veterans with money raised from corporate sponsors, fans and schools.

Over the past three years, the group has also been able to provide seven Action-Track Chairs to injured, ill and wounded veterans. The Action Track Chairs are powerful wheel chairs with tank style treads that act as the wheels. These chairs give the injured veterans a sense of mobility again by allowing them the opportunity to fish, hunt, cross the sand without issue.

“As the proud parents of two children and one nephew, who served in the United States Army and Marines, it was clear to me that I had to take action to support our military in any way possible,” said Mark “Coach” Soto, Executive Director of The Honor Group. “The vision and mission of The Honor Group occurred to fill a void by raising awareness, educating students, coaches and communities about the needs of our military veterans. By providing service and education through athletic events, school assemblies and an upcoming live stream telecast called, Honor Sessions the funds raised by the nonprofit and our events help equip wounded military veterans with items and resources designated to assist them in returning to civilian life. The Honor Group relies on partners and volunteers who share the passion to make a difference.”
